From the clocktower pass between Semi-chem and M&Co and cross the road towards McCaig’s Accommodation. Turn left along the road and then right at the church onto Albany Street. Continue straight along Albany Street for around 500m. Ignore a fork in the road and continue straight on to the left, signposted for Gallanach. At a second fork, take the left signposted for Pulpit Hill. Next continue straight on up Haggart’s Brae, signposted “Footpath to Pulpit Hill”, which is a steep path with a handrail.
At the end of the path turn right along the road, again clearly signposted for “Pulpit Viewpoint”. Turn right up a track which bypasses a bend in the road.
At the end of the track emerge onto the road and take the steps just after the bus stop on the right, clearly signposted for “Footpath to Pulpit Hill”.
The steps emerge onto an open grassy area; head for the standing stone and then to the viewpoint beyond. Take time to enjoy the magnificent views including Mull, the Morvern Hills and Oban Bay below.
If you have had your fill of good views, you can return to the clocktower the way you came. Otherwise, take the road to the right of the public toilets and continue to a junction. Turn left along the road downhill following it until you reach Holburn Cottage (which will be on your left) then turn right here.
Follow this road as it curves left past some outbuildings and right past some houses to reach a gate.
Pass through the kissing gate (ensuring you close it behind you!) and continue along the track with views gradually opening up to your left towards Ben Cruachan. Eventually you will meet another kissing gate, again pass through this and continue along the track until it peters out at the mast.
Again you will have great panoramic views; once you have enough photos for your Instagram, head back the way you came to Holburn Cottage. Here, turn right down the road, passing the stairs to Pulpit Hill on your left. Take the shortcut track straight ahead to rejoin the route back to the clocktower.
