Step 1

From the clock tower cross the road towards the bank then go right along the road towards the roundabout. Cross the road over the island toward the Royal Hotel. Continue along Argyll Square crossing over two roads and keep following the main road as it curves slightly to the right. Soon you will reach a church; take the road to the left of the church. Keep following this road as it passes the golf course and then heads uphill and passes some houses and a field. Keep right on the main road as it swings to the right at a junction.

Step 2

Eventually you can turn right into Glencruitten Woods which is signposted “Welcome to Glencruitten House Woods”.

Step 3

Initially keep on the main track then turn left at the T junction. Continue straight on through a staggered cross road where you will see a very small sign pointing straight ahead for “Cathedral”. Pass through a small parking area and then through a gate.

Step 4

At the junction turn left, again there is a small sign for “Cathedral”. Continue straight on, heading downhill, then turn left at a junction; once again there is a “Cathedral” sign. Turn right at the T junction and then turn left into the Cathedral of Trees.

Step 5

Once you have explored it, exit the Cathedral of Trees; turn right then left then left again to rejoin the main route. Eventually you will see Loch Eilean on your left with views beyond to Ben Cruachan on a nice day. Keep straight on until you reach a fork, take the right path.

Step 6

Shortly after, turn right and head along the track steadily uphill. Take a right turn onto a narrower path which heads more steeply uphill through the trees.

Step 7

At the end of this small path, turn left back onto the wider track. As the path curves to the left and plateaus, the views open up to the Isle of Mull. The track curves back round to where you left it for the small path; continue on the main track then turn right onto a narrow path and immediately right again.

Step 8

Follow this path as it heads uphill and at its highest point there are again great views towards Mull. At the bottom of a downhill section turn right at the T junction.

Step 9

Continue straight ahead and soon the path curves to the right before entering a heavily forested area.

Step 10

Once out of the woods take a left off the main track down an eroded path which heads steeply downhill between some trees adjacent to a broken down wall. Pass through a gap in the wall and over a very small stream. Turn right downhill and pass over another small stream. At a faint fork, keep to the lower right fork. At the next faint fork, take the left more obvious route. At a third and final fork, both paths end up at the same point before passing under the railway bridge. At the end of the path head onto the football pitch and cross to the other end. Head through the carpark and along the road. Go straight across at the crossroads then turn left down some steps onto a path that follows the river. At the end of this path, cross over to the other side of the road and turn right along this road. At the end of the road, turn right and head along the main road. Eventually you will pass the church mentioned in Section 1 on your right hand side and you will rejoin the outward route to take you back to the start.
