From the clocktower walk towards the roundabout, turn right then immediately cross the road twice and continue along Argyll Square. Turn right along High Street, which is adjacent to the pedestrian crossing. Follow this road for about 500m then turn left along Glenshellach Road just after passing over the railway. Keep going straight along Glenshellach Road, passing a small bridge over the railway to your left. The road narrows to a single track and starts to head uphill. After the road passes a housing estate on your left you will eventually meet some bollards in the road; pass through these and turn right onto the main road and continue along the pavement, which disappears as the road once again becomes single track.
Continue along the road, passing Glenshellach farm. Eventually the road swings round to the right at a mast; keep following the road as it leads down towards the sea.
Coming down to the T-junction at the seafront, you are rewarded with great island views. Turn right here and continue along the single track road. You will have excellent views to Kerrera on your left and will pass below some impressive cliffs on your right. Straight ahead you will see Oban - look out for Dunollie Castle and St Columba’s Cathedral.
Keep going as the road becomes more residential and views open up towards the Isle of Mull and the Morvern Hills.
Keep following the road when it curves to the right, passing the Northern Lighthouse building on your left. Ignore the ferry terminal turning signposted “Pedestrian Route” and continue straight onto Alma Crescent, following it as it curves to the left. The road passes over the railway; take the left fork here and follow the road until you can turn left through a gap in the buildings to return to the clock tower.
